General Questions

  • Multigrade classrooms simply mean that there is more than one grade in a room, working independently or together, with each student working towards their individual curriculum goals for their grade level. Students in multigrade classrooms benefit from academic eavesdropping, which exposes them to the re-teaching of and review of the basics learned and helps to clarify and solidify understanding. For younger students, it serves as a preview of the upcoming lessons and discussions. This serves to prepare and stimulate student thinking while reducing pressures associated with moving on to higher grades. In addition, children who are academically advanced or lagging in any particular subject area can easily take part in higher or lower-level skills, showcasing their strengths and working on their challenges, all while maintaining interaction with their peers.

  • Divine Peace’s curriculum is classic and Christ-centered, which means that all subjects ultimately highlight God’s glory and are obedient to Him through Christ. A wide range of resources empower both students and teachers to co-create and partake in whole group, small team, and individualized lessons and courses of instruction.

We use a rigorous K-8 curriculum including One in Christ Religion, Catechism instruction for Junior High, Progress in Mathematics, STEM based Science curriculum Fusion, Superkids Reading, Houghton Mifflin Language Arts and Reading, Scott Foresman Social Studies, and Art Connections.

  • Divine Peace has 3 classrooms: Kindergarten-Grade 1, Grades 2-4, and Grades 5-8. Our Kindergarten-Grade 1 classroom has 12 student seats available. The other two classrooms have 15 student seats available. This makes for a student-to-teacher ratio of 15:1 in Grades 2-8 and 12:1 in Kindergarten-Grade 1.

  • Financial assistance is not offered. The tuition amount charged does not fully cover all costs of educating students. With that in mind, we do all we can to keep costs as low as possible for parents.

  • Parents receive corrected homework and tests weekly. In addition, parents receive a midterm grade report for their child (Grades 1-8) along with a quarterly report card. Grades are determined using percentages affixed to letter grades (grading scale). We invite parents to attend a conference in the fall to discuss their child’s progress. Students also take part in MAP Growth testing, which is national standardized testing, three times a year. Results are shared with parents. We encourage parents to communicate with their child’s teacher if there are any concerns.

  • We strive to cultivate a school and classroom culture that is respectful and nurturing. We understand student behavior issues arise, and parents or caregivers will be notified on an individual basis to address disciplinary concerns as needed.

  • Yes, our students wear uniforms. Our uniforms can be purchased online from Lands End or at a local Flynn & O’Hara. We allow many styles of uniform in the colors red, navy, and white. All shirts must be embroidered with our school logo.

  • Yes, we have 2 aides that work with our students regularly. They do small-group work with students, monitor recesses, and monitor our extended care programs.

  • We offer a Kung Fu program that is taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 PM.

  • Typically a field trip is scheduled once per quarter. Trips have ranged from attendance at fine arts programs like the symphony and theater to visiting the National Mall and Smithsonian Museums to hiking mountains in Harper's Ferry.

  • A lunch service is provided to parents who would like to purchase meals for their child. A calendar, menu choice & sign up form are sent out monthly.

  • Parents and caregivers play a vital role in the education and well-being of children, and quality education is a collaborative effort between the family and the school. We want parents to work closely with teachers and to attend parent meetings and scheduled consultations. We welcome and encourage parents to be involved by attending, participating in, and volunteering for school sponsored events and projects.

Admissions Questions

  • Yes. While we are happy to help with buttons, zippers, etc., children are expected to be able to use the toilet and wash their hands without assistance.

  • Students of all abilities are welcome, but we do not have a separate special needs program. Any learning differences or physical disabilities that require special accommodations will need to be addressed with your child’s teacher.

  • No church membership or affiliation is required for students or families, but if you’re seeking a church home, our Pastor would love to connect with you. We invite you to learn more about our Church and what we believe.

  • The deadline to submit an application for the 2023-2024 school year is Aug. 15, 2023. Applications may be considered and accepted after this deadline if there are student seats available and if it is determined that the student will be a good fit for the classroom and for the school. Applicants will need to complete entrance testing and meet with the Academic Director and classroom teacher to determine whether or not he or she will be accepted as a student.
